Women Make Sculpture
The exhibition, Women Make Sculpture at the Pangolin from the 19 May-18 June asks the questions; why are women still marginalised by the art world and does gender bring something different to the work itself ?
Apparently women still find themselves under-represented in major ‘block buster’ shows for example the Royal Academy’s currently Modern British Sculpture exhibition which has received much criticism for leaving out major sculptors such as Antony Gormley and Anish Kapoor but none regarding the meagre selection of women in the exhibition.
Women Make Scultpure aims to provide an opportunity for women to show a selection of sculpture inspired by topical issues that concern women of today such as war, mental health, sex, shildbirth and science.
Established female artists such as Sarah Lucas, Dorothy Cross, Ann Christopher and Alison Wilding will be showing as well as hot names of the moment including Polly Morgan, Abigail Fallis, Rose Gibbs and Briony Marshall.
The exhibition shows an eclectic mix of work in a variety of media.
