The Bicycle Film Festival opens with Metronomy performance
Last night saw a very special event at The Barbican. To celebrate the start of The Bicycle Film Festival electro band, Metronomy accompanied a film screening with a live set. Lauren went down to see what it was all about…
In it’s tenth year The Bicycle Film Festival, created by Brendt Barbur, celebrates anything and everything there is to do with the bicycle. The festival was originally started after Barbur was hit by a bus in New York City the festival is a platform to showcase and celebrate music, art and of course the bicycle.
The four day event opened last night with electro pop mavericks, Metronomy playing a mix of their old and new songs along to a film created by Ferry Gouw. Up first though was Sbtrkt, the masked DJ/Producer who played an electro DJ set to a number of fast paced cycling themed shorts by Brendt Barbur and friends.
What makes Metronomy different to any other band is their live show. Every instrument IS played live (unusal for an electro band) making the set much more special. During the set last night they played classics as well as a couple of new songs which also went down well with the audience. The atmosphere was great and after a few songs it became apparent even to Joseph Mount, the bands front man, that sitting down was not going to work so encouraged the crowd to all stand-up, and we did en mass until the very last song.
Over the next 3 days the festival will showcase a number of bicycle themed films including the Bicycle Thief and E.T. both of which are also well worth checking out.
