Singtank, The Party EP
Not content with totally owning the modeling world, Joséphine de la Baume aka Mrs Mark Ronson, has joined forces with her brother Alexadre to create Singtank, their first foray into the work of music.
With influences from Pulp to The Pixies, this brother/sister duo blend quirky gypsy folk, electro pop and moments of sweetly twee melodies resulting in addictive yarns of love and loss.
The Party is only 4 tracks long but seems to cover everything the need to prove they can do, the opening title track is an upbeat foot-tapper followed by Dicksmith, a melancholy mish mash of acoustic guitars, harmonies and pianos. The twinkly electronic beats of Superstar progress to a chorus reminiscent of The Magic Numbers and final track Nuthouse is sweet acoustic ballad you’ll be humming all the way to iTunes.
As a first offering this E.P sets a good bar as a new band albeit one with very influential patrons. Singtank’s full album In Wonder, produced by Nellee Hooper (Massive Attack, Björk, U2) and Alan O’Connell (Placebo, The Gossip) is out on May 7th and definitely worth a listen.
