Short Film Competition – Tell the story of your street at Mystreet
Whether you’re a cool Dalston-ite or swanky Sloane ranger we all have an opinion on the street where we live. Do you have a story to tell about your street? Fancy filming it with the chance to win some cash?
Mystreet is an ambitious nationwide documentary film-making initiative that invites people to submit a short film about their ‘street’. You can check out the films on an online channel in your lunch break, there’s some pretty good ones up already and the eventual aim is to tell the nation’s stories, street by street.
How you make the film is up to you. I’m torn between narrating my commute on the 18 bus on my mobile phone, interviewing the shady internet café owner on a Flip video camera or even animating my dodgy neighbours using stop-motion animation. Anyway you want to get your story across in 90 seconds to 9 minutes is fine by them.
The best films uploaded onto http://www.mystreetfilms.com/ before May 26th will be eligible to win prizes at OPEN CITY London Documentary Festival (14-19 June), where they will be viewed by an international jury including: Pawel Pawlikowski (Director, My Summer of Love), Simon Chinn (Producer), Christi Puiu (Director, The Death of Mr Lazarescu), Penny Woolcock (Director, The Principals of Lust) and Nick Pearce (Director of The Institute for Public Policy Research). First prize is £3,000, Second prize is £2,000 and Third prize is £1,000.
The festival will run from 16th – 19th June, 2011 at UCL venues in Tavistock Place and the Renoir Cinema. For a detailed brief or to register for more information, visit www.opencitylondon.com.
