Ridley Scott to Direct a Sequel to Blade Runner
Respected director Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator) is reportedly set to jump from Prometheus, the Alien prequel that isn’t, to another one of his golden oldies, Blade Runner.
Ridley Scott will move on from 2012′s Prometheus, which began life as an Alien prequel before morphing into an independent movie set within the same universe, to a second installment in the Blade Runner franchise. The original Runner was released all the way back in 1982, and starred the then-young Harrison Ford as retired police officer Rick Deckard.
It is doubtful Ford will be invited back to the sequel in a starring role, as it seems most likely that this Blade Runner will be similar to Prometheus in design, rather than a direct sequel or prequel.
Blade Runner was originally panned by audiences, who flocked away from the cinema in their disgruntled masses. Since then, however, the movie has built up a loyal and dedicated following, and is rightly revered as a classic.
As long as Shia LeBeouf isn’t cast as Rick Deckard’s son, I’ll be happy.
