Report Your Street Crime
Streetviolence.org has been launched allowing Londoners to report crimes that happen to and near them…well… on the street.
Streetviolence.org allows crime victims or witnesses of a street crime to map the incident and give more details than are available on the police crime maps, like whether the victim knew their attacker and the time etc.
This idea puts crimes into context allowing people to firstly be less afraid and secondly get a much clearer idea of what is happening and for the police, how to stop it.
Witness Confident is the charity behind the site and they say that it also gives people the option to report a crime when someone wouldn’t usually want to go to the police or may be too scared to come forward. However, be advised that part of the terms and conditions of adding a crime to the map is that you allow the police to contact you.
