LFW: Alexandra Groover
Taking place at the Old Curiosity Shop in London, Alexandra Groover’s LIFE ss12 collection is her sixth thus far, and was shown through Groover’s second trilogy of her short films.
The film, that was directed by Au Matt, was shot in two parts, once place being San Diego, California, where Groover was born and the second part took place in London’s Hampstead Heath Park. Catching up with her for a quick chat about the film, Groover explained how: “It’s basically about growing up and becoming independent, and it’s about family. So it’s literally autobiographical about my growing up in California, because the first scene is in California, and then the second scene is in London where I’ve ended up and grown up. So it’s about family and looking after each other.” The idea of family and sticking together is a strong attribute, as even family members and close friends assisted in the production of this film, acting as crew and helping alongside.
The collection itself consists of models wearing black fabric that has been slashed into inspirations of rose petal and rose leaf shapes. The four models wearing the fabric were then attached to one another through long pieces of black material, suggesting that it’s representing the idea of looking after each other and family.
LIFE captures well the ideologies that Groover is trying to put across, with the designs used perfectly to enhance this.
