LFW: A la disposition
Lights dimmed and the echo of birds fluttering above came into the hall as the first model came to stage at the A la Disposition show for their A/W 2011 collection. Translated as ‘ones usual mood’ the show certainly made me feel at one with the birds, composed and relaxed as the sound of violins serenaded garments down the catwalk. My ‘usual mood’ felt lifted to say the least. Monochrome stripes on structured, costume like shoulders, were a feature in the collection. True to form, the historical costume techniques that they bring to their collection were that of the Elizabethan neck collar. High, strapping and growing up the models necks like ivy, the collars lifted off the shoulders as each look passed, encompassing the models head resembling a blooming flower.
The stalks of these ‘plant like’ creations stood high on heels similar to those of a rose stem, delicate and thin. With a slightly masculine twist, tailcoat details where cut into the back of the dresses. Hair was wispy and thin, slicked back on the side and back to for a windswept top to the look. Colours were mainly darks; greens and reds with splashes of turquoise and orange in block colours. With bright red contacts in the eyes and pale natural make up, the looks where completed.
