Google & Facebook Are In Trouble
Google and Facebook have come under fire for bypassing iPhone’s privacy settings in order to spy on users in order to build advertising profiles.
It is believed that the two sites, neither of which are renowned for their privacy efficiency, used a computer ‘trick’ to watch people’s web browsing using Apple’s Safari browser going against Apple’s own privacy laws. The move was done in order to keep track of what sites iPhone users were visiting in order to target suitable adverts at them.
According to reports Google sent a blank message to the browser that enabled it to accept unauthorised ‘cookies’ but they were caught out when Stanford University researcher Jonathan Mayer noticed the code and reported it to them.
Apple are now said to be working hard so that the code is disabled and the two sites are no longer able to access information in such a way.
