Chen Hongzhu At James Freeman Gallery
The latest exhibition to hit the James Freeman Gallery comes in the form of works from Chinese artist Chen Hongzhu.
Hongzhu is a member of the New Generation of Chinese artists consisting of children whose work looks at how the new generation of Chinese children deal with the consumer society they live in. Hongzhu’s ‘china doll’ series explores how the children of China are dealing with the type of wealth, pop culture and life style options that their parents never had and how they cope with all these extra privileges with no existing reference for how to deal with the new found fortune. This exhibition, named Bittersweet, will concentrate on individualism and the culture shock of being thrown in at the deep in of a world so consumed with materialism and money.
Bittersweet runs from today until 6 October at the James Freeman Gallery, 354 Upper Street, Islington, London, N1 0PD.
