Big Chill Festival Cancelled
And another one bites the dust… after Oxegen and Glastonbury announced they were taking a year off this year we thought we’d heard the last of festivals closing their gates but we were wrong as The Big Chill festival have today announced they are cancelling this years event.
The decision to pull the festival is down to the Olympic Games taking place in London this Summer with the festivals boss Melvin Benn releasing a statement saying, ‘I looked long and hard late last year at moving the date so it didn’t clash with the Olympics, but the mix of the festival fans’ desire to keep the date and an inability to find an alternative date that works I plumped for maintaining the existing weekend.’
He did however admit that they may put on a smaller indoor festival instead saying, ‘Sadly, the artist availability and confirmations we were achieving led me to conclude that I couldn’t risk going ahead with the event as an outdoor event this year. Efforts are being made to look to bring a smaller event indoors this year with the anticipation of The Big Chill being back outdoors in 2013.’
Anyone who has already brought tickets for the event will receive a full refund.
